lionAid petition

The African wild lion population has decreased by more
than 90% over the last 50 years, and now there are only
about 20,000 in the world.  From 2002 - 2008, the
majority of 4,400 wild lion trophies (hunted and killed)
were exported to the U.S.  Shocking statistics have
revealed that there are less than 300 white lions
world-wide, many are kept in zoos, and the rest are
used for canned hunting operations as there are no
protection laws in place for white lions.  It's devastating
to know that within a few decades around 50% of all
animal and plant species will disappear, and we will
never see them again.

  • The endangered hedgehog population
has declined by more than 25% during
the last ten years, and our much loved
    garden friends desperately need your
help.  Fifty years ago there were 30
million hedgehogs in Britain, and now
there could be less than 1 million.

Hedgehog Starter Home

Hedgehogs are an endangered species,
and you can give them the help they so
desperately need by giving them a cozy
hedgehog starter home.  The homes are
finished to a good standard with smooth
wooden panels, and each base is lined
with plastic to protect the wood.  The
houses are fitted with a side entrance
to keep predators out, although you will
need to place a piece of tarpaulin on the
roof of any hedgehog home to keep the
rain out.  When you buy a hedgehog
home, bird or bat nesting box, make sure
the wood is smooth and without splinters
or rough surfaces, because substandard
homes will splinter and buckle.  Rough
wood will lead to cuts and infections on
the skin and eyes.

Schwegler Hedgehog Dome

This damp-proof Schwegler hedgehog
dome is insulated and made from
wood-concrete, and will last for decades.
